Apple to release cheaper iPad 3

Digitimes reports:

[Apple] is adjusting the cost structure for iPad tablets in order to compete with an array of tablet PCs to be launched by rivals in the second half of 2011

Last I checked, Apple didn’t have any tablet rivals.

Zach Epstein more accurately reports that the cost savings measure is more likely to keep the device pricing inline with the inclusion of a high resolution display.

Here is my major prediction: the iPad 3, with “retina” display will launch in the Spring…..for $499.
