Apple NOT to release $299 a6 iPad

According to a report from Digitimes today Apple is gearing up to release a cheaper iPad to compete directly with the Kindle Fire.

The report claims that such an iPad would be based internally on the a6, but feature the same panel on the iPad 2 allowing them to sell it for $299.

My predictions:

There is a 0% chance Apple will sell an iPad, with an a6, for $299. If, and this is a HUGE if, Apple sell’s an iPad 2 for $299, it will be the entry level iPad 2 exactly as it stands today.  I would say it is slightly more possible that Apple even follows it’s current patterns with iPhones and introduces the cheaper iPad as an 8gb model instead, although personally I think that may not be enough storage for an iPad.

I guess everyone was quick to forget the rumors leading up to the launch of the iPhone 4S, where the “low cost” cheaper model was long rumored to be driven by an a5 chipset and then remained the iPhone 4 we all know and loved….
